Truth bomb: I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to makeup or skincare.
I am not a beauty expert nor do I care to spend hours learning tutorials on YouTube. I have no idea what the latest trends are and I don’t know the first thing about any kind of skincare routine or regimen. Have I sold you yet to keep reading?
I am, however, a busy mom who battles dry skin, maskne, and has the desire to do more for my body now that I’m a mom all over again. Something that has meant a great deal to me over the last few years has been my own wellness and that begins with not just what we put into our bodies, but what we use on our bodies. For decades I never questioned what was in my moisturizer or makeup but it takes one simple internet search to be completely floored about how little the beauty industry is regulated here in America.
That’s why I committed to not only educating myself more, but made the effort to make a clean switch…beginning with something easy: my makeup. Then, after a few months, I learned more about the benefits of skincare and, to this day, continue to learn more about how to take better care of my body outside of just drinking water and getting enough sleep.
A company that has made this switch even easier to understand and do has been Beautycounter.
What is Beautycounter?
By now I’m sure you have heard of this emerging beauty brand, Beautycounter. As a female-owned and led company, they’ve been growing exponentially over these last few years and in all of the best ways.
In a nutshell, Beautycounter develops and produces all natural makeup and skincare products that aim to get clean beauty in the hands of everyone. They’re completely transparent about their process, ingredients and sustainability, packaging, and quality of their products.
One major reason I personally stand behind Beautycounter is their commitment to the mission of making clean beauty not only accessible to everyone, but working to make it a requirement by law. I mean, how many brands do you know have advocated on Capitol Hill to champion for regulation, ingredient transparency, and protections for consumers and the planet? Yeah, me neither.
You can read all about their advocacy efforts here.
Are you a consultant?
Yes.
I joined Beautycounter as a consultant as a means of being affiliated with the company’s mission to educating my loved ones (and you guys!) about the importance of clean beauty. It’s more than just selling makeup or skincare for me, it’s about being a part of a greater movement that advocates for industry safety and the health and wellbeing of not just us, but our planet.
Is it a MLM?
No and I would never support one.
Beautycounter does offer shopping experiences in a variety of ways, so in that sense there are a variety of ways to get your hands on their products, but none of which is solely through a consultant (although that is an option). Ways you can buy products are:
- directly through the Beautycounter website
- through your consultant (who is there to help you with product info, refills, customer support, etc.)
- in-store in select locations
- and pop-up events (such as their recent partnership with Sephora)
Now, onto the good stuff…
Where to start

Much like when I first go to a new restaurant and have no idea where to start, I enjoy menus that have a little bit of everything. I’m the same way with beauty products.
Since making the commitment to switch my makeup from drugstore brands to Beautycounter, I went with their Flawless in Five set. I couldn’t recommend it more for fellow busy moms that want everything they’ll need in one convenient package without the hassle of reading labels and figuring out what each thing does. Flawless in Five gives you everything you’ll need to get a easy-breezy natural look.
Flawless in Five is designed to get you ready in five minutes or less using all of the basics to any makeup routine. It’s also great for traveling as everything you need is right there. Your set includes a choice from these 6 high quality essentials:
- Skin Twin Foundation OR Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer
- Skin Twin Creamy Concealer
- Brow Pencil OR Brow Gel
- Lengthening Mascara
- Satin Powder Blush
- Beyond Gloss
Which to Choose?
When you make your selections you have a million shades to choose from, but there are a couple choices in particular you should know about and of which I personally love:
Skin Twin Foundation or Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer?

Yes, there’s a difference between the foundation and a tinted moisturizer…and I own both.
I swear up and down by the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer and will recommend that to literally everyone – especially those just getting friendly with Beautycounter. It’s my favorite because it’s lightweight, moisturizes, and is enough to give you a flawless base (aka the tint) without looking like you’re wearing makeup.
On the flip-side, their newest Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation is also lightweight (like the name suggests), but applies more like makeup. I tend to use my Dew Skin for everyday use whereas I use the foundation more for more coverage or for special occasions like date night. I also sometimes blend the two using my new blender sponge.
Brow Pencil or Gel?
I’m personally obsessed with the brow gel and don’t know why I haven’t been using it all my life. Pencils are great, but I found with the gel I get the subtle color with easy application. It also ensures my brows stay perfectly formed all day long – no random whisps here!
Additional Goodies

In addition to my Flawless in Five basics I also add a touch of color using this eyeshadow palatte (which seems to be out of stock!) and all-over bronzer (color: dune). I also recently picked up their Better Blender sponge now that I’m getting the hang of applying my Dew Skin.

Skincare: The Basics
Skincare, I’ve learned, is like investing in the proper maintenance after going to the salon and spending hundreds of dollars on a fantastic color and cut. Why damage the beautiful work you got done with drugstore shampoos and conditioners? Well, it’s the same principle with your skin.
When you care for your skin properly you’ll need/spend less makeup in the long run. No matter your age.
Overnight Resurfacing Peel & Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum

To get myself started in a way that was affordable and of which I could begin to see results were these two gems.
Overnight Resurfacing Peel – this does wonders for my complexion! It’s not a peel in that you apply it and it is peeled off right after (or that your skin melts off), but rather is applied at night and gets to work rebuilding cells, giving you a beautiful glow in the morning.
Countertime Tripeptide Radiance Serum – this has been the first in the new Countertime line I’ve tried and have fallen in love. I use this by alternating nights with my Overnight Resurfacing Peel and began to see firm and smoother skin after a few weeks.
Eek! Those prices!

I know. When first deciding to make the switch the price point can be very off-putting (I mean, who doesn’t love drugstore prices?!). The majority of products start at $40 and go up to the hundreds for their collections and regimens. Although I’m not here to convince you to spend your life savings on beauty products, I will encourage you to think about why BC sets its prices the way they do.
- high quality and sustainable ingredients
- sustainable packaging
Furthermore, their prices are competitive with other leading companies in the biz like Olay. So, it really comes down to a willingness to pay more for the quality and results (plus, being a part of the clean beauty movement just feels good).
And that’s about it! Simple and convenient for any mama on the go (or anyone, really). Feel good about what you’re putting on your skin and begin to make those small strides towards cleaner beauty. I obviously love talking up BC (even without earning a commission) so if you have any questions or want to dive right in, just message me in the comments or connect with me on the socials!
